Nicolas Marlet

This is an unbelievably amazing ORIGINAL DRAWING by famed animation character designer Nicolas Marlet. Featuring Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston astride a two-headed dragon from Dreamworks’ animated hit How to Train Your Dragon, this gorgeous 17x11” delight was rendered in pencil and marker on a textured off-white paper. Signed “Nico” in the lower right corner.

Nico Marlet arrived from France to work in the American animation business. He began as an animator on such things as DuckTales the Movie and the Steven Spielberg produced We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story. He later became a part of the fledgling Dreamworks studio on their first feature The Prince of Egypt. Save for a brief departure to work on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. as a character designer in visual development, Nico returned to Dreamworks where he has been ever since. He first gained notoriety when he designed the extremely appealing characters for Kung Fu Panda, and then blew character design out of the water with his work on How To Train Your Dragon. A two-time winner of the National Cartoonists Society’s Silver Reuben for Feature Animation, we are beyond pleased that Nico graciously created this drawing just for our auction.
