This is a stunning illustration by NCS President Bill Morrison! Created for a gallery show of art based on Rankin/Bass animated programs, Morrison painted this piece based on the stop-motion animated special Mad Monster Party that starred Phyllis Diller (who played the character in the middle). Not only is this based on Mad Monster Party, but this painting is also a parody of a famous photo of a young Sophia Loren giving the stink eye to Jayne Mansfield for her choice of attire. But wait, there’s more! Did you realize that these characters were designed by the great Jack Davis?! Well, now you know. Morrison’s art was created in ink and ink wash, and measures in at a generous 16x16” on Crescent illustration board. Signed in the lower right.
Bill Morrison’s career started as an illustrator for movie posters back in the 1980s and 1990s with such classics as the horror film House, and believe it or not, many for Disney movies such as re-releases of Peter Pan, Cinderella, Bambi, & The Jungle Book, and the first run posters for Oliver & Company, Mickey Mouse in Prince and the Pauper, and The Little Mermaid (yes, the one of urban legend fame). For the past 25 years, Bill has been working with Matt Groening at Bongo Comics art directing many comic books and hard cover Simpsons books. Somewhere in all of that, Bill created his own comics Roswell: Little Green Man and the Dark Horse Comics mini-series Dead Vengeance.
